Coffee-Marinated Steak & Meal Planning (Week of 3.12.12)

The gardens are reading for planting, the kitchen is clean, the husband is packed for his business trip and our meals for the rest of the week are planned. This week is off to a pretty good start, or it's at least off to an extremely organized start.

I even managed to sit down and catch up on a bunch of emails I've been letting pile up in my inbox after we ate our coffee-marinated steak and sauteed spinach dinner. Yes, the husband ate spinach for dinner and liked it.

I wasn't lying when I said this week was off to a good start. Care to see how the rest of it's looking?

Menu Planning (Week of March 4, 2012)

Husband: Remember that week when we planned out all of our dinners? [Translation: Love of my Life, do you remember that week you planned all of our dinners on Sunday and then stuck to the plan every night of that week?]

Wife:
Yeah, I'd like to do that again. [Translation: That really was a great week, but I'm not sure if I have the energy to find recipes for the rest of the week and make sure we have the ingredients before we go to the store.]

Husband:
We should do that again. That was the best week ever. [Translation: You fed me whatever you wanted for the entire week and I didn't complain one bit because it was part of the menu plan. It was great.]

Wife:
Alright, I'll look at my cookbooks. [Translation: I fed you whatever I wanted for the entire week and you didn't whine one bit because it was part of the menu plan. It was great]

General consensus: Menu planning is awesome. My weeknight evenings are so much easier when I don't have to come home after work and stare at the pantry wondering what to make the husband for dinner.

Menu Planning & Eating Carne Asada

Grilled Steak ... and onions ... and avocado ... and salsa
People who have their lives together enough to plan the entire week's worth of meals impress me. I always imagine those people live in organized houses with clutter-free kitchens. Those people probably even have dogs that don't shed - or roll in dormant grass that gets stuck to their brown fur the day after, yes, the day after you just gave them a bath.

So in an attempt to be one of those people, I sat down this morning with a big cup of coffee and planned our dinners for the week. I'm happy to say I've got us eating a new meal almost every night this week. Who knows, maybe I'll even get around to cleaning up the pile of magazine pages I have sitting on the kitchen cart this week.
