I tend to eat too much Chex Mix and not enough veggies when we have visitors saying with us. My protein consumption seems to take a back seat, as well, and I find myself asking the husband, "But what is your brother going to think if we go out to dinner and I order steak and ribs?"
So when it's just me and the husband at home with the brown dogs again, I eat my protein shakes and 8 ounces of meat in one sitting without worry. I don't serve potatoes with every meal - and I eat any green vegetables I can find in the fridge that haven't gone bad yet.
Snack: 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
Lunch: leftover steak and broccoli; iceberg lettuce; some leftover diet root beat; 1/2 cup nonfat cottage cheese
Snack: vanilla whey protein shake
Dinner: 2 cups baby spinach baked in the oven and topped with mixed-up salt; 8 oz pan-fried venison cooked in just the tiniest bit of light butter
Snack: 1 carbsmart yogurt whipped with vanilla whey protein powder and a touch of water; macadamia nuts
I know what you mean about having guests and eating poorly! I like that wiaw forces me to think about what I'm choosing to eat, and keeps me away from the extra snacks floating around. :)
ReplyDeleteWIAW definitely makes me think twice about what I put in my mouth! I keep track of everything I eat almost every day anyway, but when I know I'm going to be sharing that information with the rest of the world, I tend to put the peanut butter spoon down a lot quicker. :)
DeleteI had no idea you could bake spinach! That sounds awesome, just like kale chips. Also, I am totally envious of that venison- it looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI think I've been baking my spinach chips too high. I'm going to tone down the oven a little and see if I have more luck, and then I'll share my process with all of you. I like them - the husband doesn't appreciate them much, though. Oh, well. More for me!
DeleteI tend to bake more when we have guests in town and end up sugar over-loading! As much as I love visitors, I'm always ready for a return to my normal routine when they're gone. I love that protein smoothie with granola! It's a perfect new breakfast idea for me :)
ReplyDeleteI just wanted cereal so bad one day but had to eat my protein shake, so I threw some granola in it. Now I can't stop putting things in my protein shakes - granola, apples, you name it!
DeleteIf I could, I'd avoid protein altogether and eat bread and butter at ever meal. But as I write this I'm drinking a totally sub-par protein shake. We do what we have to do...right?
ReplyDeleteYou speak the truth, lady.
DeleteYour beef and broccoli looks delicious. I just watched an episode of Dr. Oz the other day. He had a fitness/nutrition expert on who was explaining that beef and broccoli was one of the best choices when you go out for Chinese food. Who knew?
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought of that! Thanks for the tip. :)
DeleteBaked spinach?! How interesting! What's it like?
ReplyDeleteThe leaves get crisp and airy, and when seasoned right they do sorta taste like chips! The husband thinks they taste like leaves, but I wouldn't listen to him. I'm going to work on the process a bit more and hope to post a tried-and-true technique soon. :)
