Banana Smoothie

Banana Smoothie From Health
The wife, packing her lunch before work: Ah, man!
The husband comes into the kitchen, worried the wife is actually having some sort of emergency: What happened?
The wife: I just dropped a cranberry in my tea!
The husband, laughing: Well, why are you making your trail mix over your tea? You knew that was going to happen, didn't you?

I have to admit, the husband had a point. I'm constantly doing things that result in him saying, "You knew that was going to happen." (And before it was the husband, the stepdaddy was the one who always had to point this out to me.) I'll spoon food from a serving dish to my plate only to slop it all over the dinner table. I've been known to wear a white shirt while eating spaghetti and gravy. And I've spent more than one January 1 on the couch with a glass of ginger ale - and I mean one glass - all day.

It's not always pretty, but there's probably no changing me at this point, which means the husband just has to shake his head and laugh. And I have to stubbornly accept the fact that he was right. So I was completely prepared for that to be the case yesterday morning when I was whipping up my breakfast.
A new Health magazine was in my mailbox yesterday - yay! - and after two weekends of hosting company and enjoying all sorts of food and drink, I was, shamefully, immediately drawn to the "Lose 5 lbs in five days" headline. (I know articles like this are a crock, and I'm a strong believer that everything in moderation is better than binging and trying to lose 5 lbs in five days. So why do I read articles like this all the time? No idea!) Like so many of the other articles I've read like this in the past, this one didn't contain a plethora of groundbreaking information. Watch what you eat and drink green tea for five days. (My apologies for not providing a spoiler alert.)

So although I don't plan to follow this eating plan for five days and lose 5 lbs - because there's absolutely no way I can eat the SAME meals every day for almost a week! - I did want to try out Health's suggested breakfast. A 300-calorie start to the day? That's right up my alley. So although I was afraid a smoothie would leave me hungry after just a couple of hours, I got out the blender and prepared to ignore the husband's words I assumed I'd hear at about 8 am. You knew you were going to be hungry if you ate that for breakfast. Why didn't you make some egg whites or oatmeal?

Lucky for me, the husband's common question never entered my head: This banana smoothie kept me full the four hours I hoped it would. (The husband can tell you, I have a strange eating schedule and eat every four hours.) I was shocked! Thanks for proving me wrong, Health magazine. And thanks for not making me have to tell the husband he was right – again.

  1. This does look fantastic....as a snack. The only breakfast I'm able to drink is coffee. :)

  3. Banana Smoothie is just what I need with my lactose free milk. I peel and freeze the bananas when they get ripe. That really works well in smoothies.

  5. Sometimes I'm hesitant to make stuff with bananas because I'm afraid it'll have a strange aftertaste. (Is that weird?) But this smoothie didn't have that at all. It was just good! The husband wasn't as impressed, though, seeing as how I left him the blender to wash. Oops.
